Azogires is a small Cretan mountain village, about 10 km in Paleochora´s northern periphery. The little village may seem inconspicuous at first glance, but on closer inspection it reveals an eventful history, centuries-old traditions and an attractive backdrop.
On a 3-hours´walk with your host Eftychis “Lucky” Koukoutsakis and in the midst of this beautiful scenery you will learn everything worth knowing about the village, its monastery, the Cave of the 99 Fathers, various chapels, the old oil mill, the school and the waterfalls – all embedded in the history of this little village and in the very personal history of the Koukoutsakis´Family.
Start of this walk through a piece of Cretan history is the famous Alfa Café in Azogires. Here you can also comfortably finish this amazing tour having some drinks and original Cretan mezé (appetizers).
