You will find the tavern „Choumas“ (Χουμας) directly on the beach road from Paleochora about 5 km west towards Koundouras on the left hand.
A view on Paleochora.
It looks rather unspectacular from the street side, but offers a little paradise when you look behind it. One of the most beautiful bays around Paleochora. A beautiful lawn extends to the nearby sandy beach, some palm trees provide shade and the taverna invites you to linger around on a shady, ventilated terrace with pavilion.
A good taverna on Gramenno beach.
Here in the „Choumas“ you can enjoy Greek, Cretan and even international specialties from the grill, pan, pot and oven. Markos is a trained chef with a degree, which is not standard in Greek tavernas. From an extensive selection of starters to salads, vegetarian dishes and pasta to fish and meat, everything is freshly, professionally and lovingly prepared.

The “Snitsel á la Creme” and “Lamm Tsigariasto” are highly recommended and also a sneak preview on the neighboring tables should not be forgotten (last not least, the eyes enjoy the neighbor’s dish as well) where they serve staka, scordolia, small fried fish and pastizio.
Then the salad „Houmas“ with white cabbage, red cabbage, carrots, green salad, raisins, spinach, tomatoes, grapes, cherry tomatoes, walnuts, sesame, pomegranate seeds, Graviera chesse and balsamic sauce. Look at the satisfied faces confirming that you simply “have to” come back to this place.
Finally, you can enjoy a homemade dessert and Raki before you hold your „Mesimeri“ at the beach – a well-rounded affair!
They are helping also with family celebrations, weddings, birthdays and baptisms or other events in their unique atmosphere – just ask Markos.
The „Xoumas“ taverna near Paleochora – much more than a „beach taverna“!
